A Longstanding Commitment to Changing Lives for the Better
For 17 years, LifeChange Psychotherapy and Counselling has been at the forefront of providing professional counselling, psychotherapy and mental health supports and expertise in Dublin and further afield in Ireland. Established with a commitment to making quality psychological care accessible to people from all walks of life, LifeChange has developed into one of Dublin’s longest-established and most experienced centres for counselling and psychotherapy.
Over the years, we have been proud to contribute to the development of professional mental health services in Ireland, supporting individuals, couples and families through some of life’s most challenging experiences. Our work has always been guided by a fundamental belief: everyone deserves access to quality psychological support, a safe space to explore their difficulties and an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships.
During our years of operation, we are proud to have delivered more than 100,000 hours of quality therapeutic care and client support. Behind this significant achievement are thousands of individual stories: people who have sought help with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, trauma, bereavement, stress, personal identity, life transitions and many other challenges. For us, these hours represent much more than a measure of experience. They represent a longstanding commitment to listening, understanding, supporting and helping people make meaningful changes in their lives.
A Passionate Commitment to Positive Mental Health and Psychological Wellbeing for All
LifeChange has consistently recognised that mental health is an essential if not foremost part of overall human health and wellbeing. We believe that seeking counselling or psychotherapy should be understood as a positive step towards personal development, emotional resilience and a healthier relationship with ourselves and others. Throughout our history, we have worked with people from virtually every demographic and background in Irish society. Our clients have included young adults, students, professionals, parents, couples, older adults and people experiencing significant personal, social and psychological difficulties.
We recognise that no two people are the same. Each individual brings their own personal history, experiences, relationships, challenges and aspirations into therapy. Consequently, our approach has always emphasised the importance of providing professional support that recognises the individual rather than simply treating a particular problem or set of symptoms. Our experienced therapeutic community has brought together practitioners with diverse professional backgrounds, qualifications, clinical experience and specialist interests. This diversity has allowed LifeChange to develop a broad and integrated range of therapeutic services.
Pioneering Specialist Approaches to Psychotherapy in Ireland
One of the distinguishing features of LifeChange has been our willingness to recognise and embrace different approaches to psychological health and therapeutic development. Over the years, we have been among the earliest providers in Dublin to recognise the importance of offering specialist psychotherapy approaches alongside more traditional counselling services.
These have included:
Couples Therapy and Relationship Counselling
We have long recognised the importance of relationships in shaping our psychological and emotional wellbeing. Couples therapy provides partners with an opportunity to understand relationship difficulties, improve communication, address unresolved conflicts and rebuild emotional connection and intimacy. Our work recognises that relationship problems are often complex and require a sensitive understanding of both individual experiences and shared relationship dynamics.
Body Psychotherapy and Somatic Approaches
LifeChange has also championed the importance of understanding the relationship between the mind and body in psychological health. Body psychotherapy recognises that emotional experiences, stress and unresolved trauma can be reflected in bodily patterns, physical tension, breathing and our capacity to connect with ourselves and others. Drawing on traditions including the work of Wilhelm Reich and Alexander Lowen, body-oriented psychotherapy offers additional ways of exploring emotional experience, personal development and psychological change.
Biodynamic and Humanistic Approaches
We have also recognised the value of biodynamic and other humanistic approaches to psychotherapy. These traditions place importance on the relationship between emotional experience, bodily awareness, personal history and the development of the individual.
By making these specialist approaches available, LifeChange has helped broaden the understanding of psychotherapy beyond simply talking about problems. We recognise the importance of working with the whole person: emotionally, psychologically, physically and relationally. Our commitment to therapeutic diversity continues to inform our work today.
Making Professional Psychotherapy More Accessible
One of our longstanding commitments has been the belief that financial circumstances should not automatically prevent someone from accessing professional psychological support. LifeChange was among the first psychotherapy providers in Dublin to introduce lower-cost professional counselling and psychotherapy options for students, people on lower incomes and those experiencing financial difficulties. We recognised that many people who could benefit enormously from psychotherapy were often unable to afford conventional private therapy fees. Students, young adults and people on low wages can experience considerable psychological pressures while having limited financial resources to seek professional help.
We believe that access to mental health support should not be determined solely by someone’s ability to pay. Our commitment to affordability remains an important part of our ethos. Where available, we continue to offer lower-cost counselling and psychotherapy options, helping to make professional support more accessible to a wider section of society. We are particularly proud of this contribution because it reflects something fundamental about our philosophy: quality mental health care should be accessible, inclusive and responsive to the needs of the community.
Professional Expertise, Experience and a Deeply Human Approach
At LifeChange, we understand that choosing a counsellor or psychotherapist is a significant personal decision. It requires trust, confidence and the knowledge that you will be working with someone who has the appropriate professional training, experience and understanding. Our therapeutic community includes qualified and experienced practitioners working across a range of humanistic, integrative, psychodynamic and other specialist therapeutic approaches.
We recognise that effective psychotherapy is not simply about applying techniques or following a particular therapeutic model. It is fundamentally about establishing a professional and supportive relationship in which people feel safe enough to explore difficult experiences, understand themselves more deeply and work towards meaningful change.
Whether someone is experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, bereavement, addiction, stress or a general sense of feeling lost or disconnected, psychotherapy can provide an opportunity to understand what is happening and discover new ways of responding to life’s challenges. Our aim is to offer a confidential, respectful and non-judgemental environment where people can explore their experiences at their own pace.
Looking Towards the Future
As LifeChange continues to develop, we remain committed to the principles that have guided our work throughout our history: professional excellence, therapeutic integrity, accessibility and genuine care for the people who come to us for support. The importance of mental health and psychological wellbeing has never been greater. Modern life presents individuals, couples and families with increasing pressures, uncertainty and emotional challenges. Professional counselling and psychotherapy have an important role to play in helping people navigate these experiences.
We are proud of our contribution to the development of counselling and psychotherapy services in Dublin and Ireland, and particularly proud of the thousands of people who have trusted us to accompany them through difficult periods in their lives. Our history is reflected not simply in the number of years we have been operating or the more than 100,000 hours of therapeutic care we have delivered, but in our continued commitment to making a positive difference.
